The Mizo National Front, under former Chief Minister Laldenga, fought a bitter separatist struggle for twenty years against the Indian Army until an accord that guaranteed Mizoram's autonomy as a separate state was signed in 1986.
The MNF has its genesis in the Mizo Cultural Society, formed in 1955. The in 1959, something happened which led to the Mizo Cultural Society morphing into the _______ Front, which ultimately took the shape of the MNF in 1960.
